We would like to welcome Tanya Mackenzie, our new Physiotherapist to the clinic.
Tanya has been in physiotherapy practice in South Africa for many years, mainly focusing on orthopaedic and sports injuries. She has completed a post graduate certificate in orhopaedic manipulative therapy and has a particular interest in the correction of ergonomics to prevent repetitive strain injuries.
Herself a keen sports woman, she is interested in sports specific screening and re-education of the athlete. Although experienced in all areas of orthopaedic physiotherapy, special interest areas include the cervical headache, the shoulder complex and TMJ disorders. She also practices dry needling for the release of deep soft tissue and muscular skeletal conditions.
Tennis Ace!
It was with great pleasure that, for the second year running, the clinic were asked to provide physiotherapy provision for this years Boodles tennis tournament held at Adlington Hall.
The tournament is for tennis stars of previous years and is held over four days consisting of five teams of doubles players. Players this year included Jeremy Bates, Mansour Bahrani, Chris Wilkinson and Matts Wilander amongst many others.
This is a great way to see tennis played at it’s best and get really close to the action and we really enjoyed being a part of this fantastic event.
The Golf Athlete comes to Tytherington
Amanda and Angie had the great privilege of attending a two day seminar with two of the worlds most eminent forces in the world of golf. Rob Neal who is a world renowned expert on Golf Biomechanics and Michael Dalgleish is an Australian Physiotherapist who has an extensice knowledge about not only how the body works but the essential movments required to create an efficient and reproducable swing.
Golf professionals and Physiotherapists came together at Tytherington Golf Club to explore the mechanism of the swing and learn to assess where movement faults and restrictions might affect the golf swing and ultimately lead to pain or a break down in consistancy.
Using the latest in 3D biomechanics equipment, they can provide expert interpretative biomechanical reporting on body motions during the golf swing. That is, ‘real time’ position and orientation of parts of the body (e.g. head, shoulders, arms, hips, club, etc.) are recorded as the golfer swings the club - all in 3D. This highlights technical faults or movement faults that can then be addressed by golf specific exercises or lessons with the Pro.

The Cost of Being Green??
As we are becoming more environmentally friendly the use of plastic carrier bags is on the demise. More and more of us are choosing to use a recyclable shopping bag rather than pick up a plastic bag at the supermarket in order to help save the planet.
However, with the advent of reusable shopping bags we have seen increased numbers of patients attending for physiotherapy with back, neck, shoulder and elbow problems that patients have related to carrying heavy shopping bags.
Old plastic supermarket bags are designed to carry 6kg of product, however, with the introduction of reusable bags with substantially larger capacities, shoppers are cramming more in to each bag with potentially harmful effects. People are using fewer of the larger bags and because they are more durable, carrying weights in excess of safe guidelines to and from the car.
Angie has created an advice leaflet to combat the risks of overloading shopping bags which is available by contacting the clinic. Other freeleaflets are available on prevention of back pain for school children, driving and computer use.
