At Physiofit we aim to not only get our clients back to full fitness but we help them reach a level of fitness that they have not previously known. We identify risk areas for potential future injuries and design individual programmes to address any muscle imbalances. Within the clinic environment we are limited in how far we can take certain clients without either specialist knowledge or equipment and we have therefore developed strong links with specific Strength and Conditioning Personal Trainers. They have been handpicked to reflect our attention to detail and their utmost professionalism.

Angela Jackson - Cricket Strength and Conditioning Consultant

Angie Jackson has joined the Cheshire Cricket Board Limited (CCB) as their new Strength and Conditioning Consultant. She will give guidance to Cheshire’s young players and their parents on how to best prevent injuries during this important stage of their physical development and will also offer screening tests for all Cheshire Youth Cricketers at specially discounted prices.angie-jackson-chartered-physiotherapist1
She recently gave a presentation to the parents of county juniors where the main thrust was be a presentation on Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD), ensuring the correct advice is given about growth spurts, nutrition, and training levels for young cricketers.

Angela, who has previously worked with the County U14 squad and the Emerging Players, said she was thrilled to be joining the Cheshire Cricket Board in an official capacity.

With 19 years experience in the field, Angela brings a wealth of knowledge to the Cheshire set-up which includes a short stint as a consultant to the full England set up. “I have developed my own screening programme over the last 13 years but wanted the backing of the England Cricket Board to ensure what I was including was appropriate. I’ve been down a couple of times since, working with the likes of James Anderson, Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen. It’s great to have had some kind of input at that level because it gives a certain credit to what you do.”

Angela now wants to pass on that valuable experience to youngsters around the county and already works with the Emerging Players on a weekly basis at Old Trafford, and by 2012 hopes to have visited each of the representative age group squads on either training or match days.
The CCB coaching staff has also received training from Angela and have adapted their dynamic warm-up routines to incorporate her strength and conditioning exercises. In the modern game of cricket fitness and strength and conditioning are key. Talent is no longer enough to move forward to the highest level in the game. “A lot of children are very talented sportsmen and women, but the further up the ladder you go it’s important to have the whole package, which means they need a certain level of fitness,” said Angela. “It’s now a requirement for all the England players - before they receive their contract - to undergo and pass a strength and conditioning test. We need to accept this is part and parcel of elite sport.
“If you don’t give the children the right opportunities at an early age, it becomes very difficult to play catch up later on.” She added: “This is not just about preventing injury, but also about improving performance.”

Cheshire Cricket Board Director of Cricket Richard Newton said: “We are delighted to have Angela on board, and hope that her passion and expertise will prove of great benefit to the well-being of our young players, both this season and beyond.”
